HC Pilsen are one of the long-standing clubs in Czech hockey. The team was founded in 1929 as the ice hockey section of the football club Viktoria Plzeň and initially competed under several different names.
The club first reached the top level of Czechoslovak hockey in 1951, marking an important step in its development. During the 1950s, the team began to achieve early success, winning a bronze medal in 1957 and finishing as league runner-up in both 1958 and 1959.
These early results helped establish Plzeň as a competitive club within the national hockey scene. Although the team remained a regular participant in the top league for decades, many of its most successful seasons came later.
The most successful moment in the club’s history came in the 2012/13 season, when HC Pilsen won their first, and so far only, Czech Extraliga championship. The club won the regular season title in 2010 and again in 2018 and have also reached strong playoff positions since.
Pilsen have played in three past Champions Hockey League seasons, making it as far as the Semi-Finals in 2018/19.
