The Kloten Flyers (formerly known as EHC Kloten) were founded in 1934 by a group of seven members, led by the future honourary president Emil Hegner. During the first few years, EHC Kloten played only exhibition games on the frozen Nägelimoos-Weiher, but the team quickly evolved, entered the highest hockey league in Switzerland in 1962. Since its promotion to the NLA, the team has not been relegated, making Kloten the longest-serving team in the league. The team won the Swiss championship in 1967 and then four straight times from 1993 to 1996 -- a record for the playoff era. The Kloten Flyers’ youth and junior program is well-known as one of the most successful and renowned in the country.
