16 teams will be drawn from two baskets for the eighth-final match-ups.
Press Release
The Champions Hockey League has announced today that the Playoff Draw will be held on 10 October at the MTV Studios in Helsinki, Finland.
The draw will take place at 13:00 local time (12:00 Central European Time) and will be broadcast live on MTV platforms. For other broadcasts, including video streaming, check for info on www.championshockeyleague.net
“We are very pleased that our partner MTV will host our draw,” said Martin Baumann, Champions Hockey League CEO. “MTV was the first broadcaster who signed on for the CHL and with the Finnish teams being very successful in the group stage and thus competing for playoff spots, it makes great sense to conduct the draw in Helsinki and at the MTV studios.”
The Champions Hockey League group stage will be completed on 7 and 8 October. The 11 group winners and the five best second-place teams will advance to the playoffs, starting with the eighth-finals to be played on 4 and 11 November. (See below for all playoff dates.)
The 16 playoff teams will be divided into two draw baskets, whereby the top eight teams from the group stage will be drawn from Basket A while the other eight will be drawn from Basket B.
Teams which played in the same groups during the group stage cannot be drawn against each other in the eighth-finals.
Teams from the same country can be drawn against each other.
The team from Basket B (IE, the lower-seeded team) will play at home in the first game and the team from Basket A (the higher-seeded team) will play at home in the second game, including any overtime period or shootout.
The brackets that will be established as of the 10 October draw will determine the playoffs all the way to the one-game final on 3 February. (No other draws will be conducted).
