Meanwhile, the race atop Group A got a bit tighter as Karpat Oulu won in overtime and Bili Tygri Liberec in regulation, meaning Liberec now trails Koln by just one point heading into their head-to-head meeting in Karpat to decide the group winner.
TPS Turku 3–4 Linkoping HC (SO)
TPS Turku and Linkoping HC traded goals in all three periods, then Linkoping won in a shootout, with Marcus Hogberg stopping all three TPS attempts. The win clinches Group F for Linkoping, while TPS still has a chance at a wildcard spot, but they'll surely need points in their last game to help that happen.
"This was not the best game from us. We went for the win but we couldn't get it. Now we need to change something because we need to win Linköping in Sweden," said TPS's Mikko Rantanen, who scored the first goal of the game. Describing it, he said, "(Tadas) Kumaliauskas with a beautiful pass and it was easy to score, so thanks to him."
Karpat Oulu 3–2 HC Kosice (OT)
Adam Masuhr's goal with just five seconds remaining in overtime gave Karpat Oulu the win, and helps them maintain their slim lead atop Group A. The two teams traded goals in the first and second periods, then played defensively in the third. Cramo Top Scorer Joonas Donskoi opened the scoring for Karpat just 15 seconds in and assisted on their other two goals.
"We played pretty good game as a team," said Karpat goalie Iiro Tarkki, who stopped 18 of 20 shots in the game. "For me it was a hard start because there weren't a lot of shots so I had to stay focused and keep myself calm. As a team we were really good in the whole game so we deserved the win."
"The beginning of the game wasn’t good for us and we gave up a goal after just a few seconds," said Kosice's Marek Bartanus. "We didn't give up, though. Both teams were pretty even the whole game. Most of the play was in the neutral zone, even though they controlled the puck more and had more chances than we did. But I don’t think there's any shame in our loss. We didn't disappoint."
Bili Tygri Liberec 2–1 Kolner Haie
In a defensive game that neither team wanted to gamble too much in, Liberec scored a pair of power-play goals to take a 2–0 lead, with the trio of Petr Jelinek, Tomas Bulik and Petr Gregorek getting two points each. Koln countered with a goal by Alexander Sulzer in the dying seconds of the second period, but couldn't get the equaliser in the third despite out-shooting Liberec 11–2. Marek Schwarz stopped 32 of 33 shots in the game. With the three points, Liberec moves to within one point of group leader Karpat, setting up an all-important game between the two teams on Game Day 6.
"We’re happy that we capitalized on two power plays which decided the final outcome of the game," said Liberec assistant coach Milan Cerny. "We also killed many penalties and got a great performance from Marek Schwarz in the net. We played what we wanted during first period. The second period wasn’t as good and we also started getting penalties, but we were able to hang on for the W."
"The only thing I’m not satisfied with is the result," said Koln head coach Uwe Krupp. "We played well and even though Liberec was better in the first period, we were able to match the tempo in the following two periods. I regret that we didn’t get more goals, but I’m happy with the way we played."
