In Wednesday's late action, three Swedish clubs made some noise at the top of their groups – Skelleftea AIK clinched Group J, while Frolunda and Gothenburg and the Vaxjo Lakers both moved into ties for first in their respective groups. As well, Danish side SonderjyskE Vojens got their first CHL win.
Vaxjo Lakers 2–1 KalPa Kuopio
Tuomas Kiiskinen and Nick Johnson gave Vaxjo a 2–0 lead on home ice, and they played tight defence to protect the lead the rest of the way. Tomas Kubalik got one for KalPa midway through the third period, but couldn't get another. Vaxjo now moves into a first-place tie with Sparta Prague atop Group G, while KalPa sits two points back. All three teams still have a chance to win, though both Vaxjo and KalPa will need help from Adler Mannheim (again) on Game Day 6.
"It was a very special game," said Kiiskinen. "I spend seven years with the club so I knew it was going to be like that, but I think we did well here. We got a power-play goal in the second period to get the lead. I think we played well that period. The first was a bit rough but we came back and played a pretty solid period."
"I know Kiiskinen since I’m also from Kuopio. He is a good guy and a good player so I wasn’t surprised that he (had a goal and an assist) tonight," said KalPa's Jaakob Rissanen. "I think we had a pretty good start. The first period was ours but then we lost it in the second and the third one was also pretty good. The only thing we missed was the goals. We played really well, it’s just that we couldn’t bury the puck."
Skelleftea AIK 3–0 IFK Helsinki
After an evenly played first period in which no goals were scored, Skelleftea out-shot IFK 27–9 over the final 40 minutes and out-scored them 3–0 to keep their perfect record intact and clinch the Group J title. Daniel Widing scored both of Skelleftea's goals in the second period, while Erik Hanses made 17 saves for the shutout. IFK will now try to assure themselves a wildcard spot with some points in the last game.
"This was a tough game. We felt a little better in the second and third periods," said Widing. Describing his goals, he said, "Two great passes. The first one was on the power play. A cross pass. The second was a great pass and open net. It's hard to make a mistake on the second."
"So far we've played five games in Finland. Those teams were nothing like Skelleftea," Finnish head coach Antti Tormanen said, comparing the defending SHL champions to the teams IFK have played in Liiga so far this season. "That was the right outcome. They were a much better team. It is important to play in the CHL. We want to have success."
Frolunda Gothenburg 6–2 Briancon Diables Rouges
Andreas Johnsson scored four goals and added one assist and Cramo Top Scorer Mathis Olimb added a goal and three assists as Frolunda beat Briancon 6–2 to keep pace with Geneve atop Group C with 12 points. Both Frolunda and Geneve will likely advance. With another offensive surge, Olimb and Johnsson remain first and second in CHL scoring with 17 and 16 points, respectively.
Krefeld Pinguine 3–4 SonderjyskE Vojens
With both teams searching for their first win in the CHL, Krefeld led 2–1 after two periods but SonderjyskE Vojens scored three times in the third period to win 4–3. Cory Quirk assisted on three of the Danish club's goals, including captain Kim Lykkeskov's game-winner with 5:06 to play. Adam Courchaine had two goals and one assist for Krefeld.
