Swiss Club and CHL founding member ZSC Lions Zurich have a couple of announcements to make. They have extended the contract of Slovak defenceman Ján Tabaček, and forward Chris Baltisberger is going to the prospect camp of the Edmonton Oilers.
Press Release
ZURICH - ZSC Lions Zurich announce the contract extension of 34-year-old defenceman Ján Tabaček, who signed a one-year contract.
He came to the club shortly before playoffs in 2014 and played in all four games of the final series against the Kloten Flyers. Before that, he also played three games in the qualification series.
Tabaček has previously played in the Slovak and Czech Extraligas, the Finnish Liiga, as well as the KHL, AHL and ECHL. His stops have included CHL rivals Sparta Prague, HC Košice and Tappara Tampere. He competed in the last two European Trophies and previously in two European Champions Cups.
With the CHL and the Swiss Cup come two new competitions for ZSC in 2014/15. For this reason, the club will start the season with five foreign players. Ryan Keller, Ryan Shannon, Marc-André Bergeron and Tabaček are four of those, with the fifth spot still open.
In other news, 22-year-old forward Chris Baltisberger has received an invitation to the prospect camp of the Edmonton Oilers. The camp takes place July 1 - 8, 2014 in Alberta. For Baltisberger this is a great opportunity to further improve. Apart from specific ice practice sessions he is also going to work on strength and conditioning off the ice. Players will be evaluated with the aim of finding potential new players for the Oilers.
Baltisberger made his debut for ZSC in the 2010/11 season. He has played 149 games in total for the club and scored 21 points (7 goals, 14 assists), winning the Swiss championship title twice already. Like Tabaček, he also played in the two most recent European Trophies.
