Zug face uphill climb vs Berlin
Eisbaren Berlin made the Round of 16 last year and took a solid step towards repeating with a 4-0 home-ice win in the first game against EV Zug. They know the job isn't done yet, though.
"We are very pleased with the result, but Zug has a good, skilled team," said Berlin's Jamie MacQueen, who had a goal and an assist in the first game. "Next time, we want to play better defensively, but all in all it was a good game."
Zug surely aren't going to roll over and die, but they'll have to come out with a better effort on home ice. In particular, they need to stay out of the penalty box.
"We spent too much time killing penalties," said Zug coach Harold Kreis. "We spent too much time in the box and didn't play tough enough. We'll try to play 5-on-5 for 60 minutes next time. The series isn't over yet."
