ZSC Lions Zurich came out in their second straight game against ERC Ingolstadt wanting to get pucks on net, but for 30 minutes Timo Pielmeier looked unbeatable. At the other end, Lukas Flueler looked beatable. John Laliberte got one past him in the first period but it was called back due to a crease violation, then Petr Taticek opened the scoring for Ingolstadt in the 26th minute on the power play, picking up the rebound after a long pass from Pielmeier to Petr Pohl.
In the last half of the second period, ZSC took over the game, however. Twice they struck on the power play, sandwiched around Chris Baltisberger's game-winning goal at even strength. They added one more in the third period. Roman Wick and Robert Nilsson each had three points.
"You can't make a lot of mistakes against that kind of team, because they punish you immediately," said Ingolstadt forward Thomas Oppenheimer. "But I think we played well, when you consider that we've been on the ice for just three weeks so far."
Zurich coach Hans Wallson said, "We played against a good team, did much better with puck possession today than in the previous game as well. We want to win every game we play, not gonna take a rest, and give everything we have against Lukko."
Ingolstadt coach Tommy Samuelsson called the Lions "very hard opponents." He continued, "The first period was okay – we were decent in our own zone and gave them little space. Then in the middle period we didn't keep that going, didn't use the puck well enough, and they were better than us. Anything is possible in the next games, so we can work toward those and hope for the best."
