Neither ZSC Lions nor Bílí Tygři Liberec have ever gone past the Quarterfinals in the Champions Hockey League. The Czech side make their debut at this stage of the competition, while the Lions went out at this stage in both of the past two seasons.
ZSC had a relatively poor start to their domestic campaign but quickly picked up, and are now leading the chasing pack behind Bern. In the Extraliga, Liberec have still yet to find their rhythm after a very disappointing start.
