The Champions Hockey League sets a strong example of sustainability and social responsibility: The tablets previously used at all CHL games to track player statistics are getting a second life – as educational tools for children and young people around the world.
In Zug, the CHL handed over a donation of 90 used tablets to the non-profit organisation Labdoo. The devices, previously in use by CHL clubs, will now be used in schools, kindergartens, refugee centres and orphanages both domestically and internationally.
"We are pleased that our tablets will be reused and will help children and young people," said CHL Sport Director Fadri Holinger, "with Labdoo’s support, we want to contribute to improving access to education and creating digital opportunities where they are urgently needed."
Labdoo’s mission is to reduce the global "digital gap" in an environmentally responsible way by providing children, youths, orphans and refugees with access to IT and education. The organisation collects used but functional laptops and tablets from around the world, refurbishes them, and distributes them through a global network of volunteers to places where they are needed most.
"We at Labdoo Switzerland are very happy about the CHL’s device donation," said Frank Geisler, President of Labdoo Switzerland. "Thanks to the efforts of our dedicated volunteers, this generous donation will allow us to give many more children and young people the opportunity for better educational opportunities!"
About the CHL’s Sustainability Strategy
Last year, the CHL introduced its sustainability strategy and launched a dedicated website to transparently present and structure existing sustainability efforts, as well as to identify opportunities for improvement. The aim of the CHL is to lead by example and promote the exchange of expertise with and between clubs. Several success stories have already been achieved during the season – and the cooperation with Labdoo is now one of them. More information about the CHL’s sustainability strategy and initiatives can be found at www.chl-sustainability.com.
