The Champions Hockey League Final is only two days away! As our finalists suit up and finalise tactics ahead of Tuesday’s game, let’s take a look at their domestic form heading into the biggest game of the season.
Tappara Tampere
Since clinching their first-ever place in a CHL Final, Liiga side Tappara Tampere have had a jam-packed calendar having played 13 Liiga games in the span of 25 days, winning nine and losing just four.
They enter the Final sitting in top spot of the Liiga standings with 93 points and poised for a top finish domestically. Second-placed Jukurit also have 93 points, but Tappara have a game in hand.
Their most recent game against IFK Helsinki ended 2-0 in Tappara’s favour, with Joona Luoto and Brady Austin scoring, so they enter the Final on a winning note.
Forward Anton Levtchi has been in incredible form for Tappara this season. The 26-year-old Tappara academy product has scored 20G and a whopping 30A for a combined total of 50 points in Liiga so far!
With stats like this, it’s no surprise that he is the most productive player of the league ten rounds before the end of the regular season.
His 1.11 points per game average also make him the only Liiga player scoring more than a point per game.
Tappara’s second most productive player at this stage of the season will come as no surprise. Who else can it be than Kristian Kuusela, who is also Tappara’s most productive player in the CHL this season with 2G, 11A.
Following these two the playing field evens out a bit, but Waltteri Merelä and Patrik Virta deserve a special mention.
Merelä has scored 18 goals in Liiga and is in the top five on the Liiga top scorer leaderboard, whilst Virta’s double contribution (16G, 19A) land him eleventh place on the most productive player leaderboard.
Both have also been very active in the CHL this season and could put their name up on the board during the Final – watch out!
Rögle Ängelholm
Since securing their place in the Final all the way back on January 11, Rögle Ängelholm have played 12 SHL games. The Swedes have won eight of those and enter the Final on a three-game winning streak.
Similarly to Tappara, they enter the Final as one of the top teams of their league. Though not in top spot, they only miss out on it due to goal difference.
Forward Leon Bristedt has been Rögle’s most productive player in the SHL so far this season.
With 39 points from 13G and 26A, the 26-year-old sits in ninth place on the SHL most productive player leaderboard and has averaged over a point per game.
His SHL contributions perfectly reflect his CHL record this season, as the Sweden international has been one of Rögle’s most productive players in the CHL as well.
Canadian teammate Adam Tambellini is Rögle’s top scorer heading into the Final and with 18 tallies this season, he sits in fifth place on the SHL top scorer leaderboard.
With an extra 19 assists for a combined 37 points so far this season the Canadian national team Olympic Games player isn’t far off Bristedt!
Anton Bengtsson also makes the top ten on the SHL top scorer leaderboard with 17 SHL goals so far this season and when combined with assists, he’s also well over 30 points this season.
That completes our guide to domestic form ahead of the 2021/22 CHL Final!
