We've seen players try to win the Champions Hockey League this season, and then go for national championships at the end of the season. Now for a small group of players there is another honour up for grabs- the chance to be a double Champion 

Two of the most notable names looking for their second titles of the season are Elias Pettersson and Martin Nečas. Pettersson’s season, of course, has been highly publicized. The rookie won the SHL regular-season scoring title and playoff MVP, helping the Växjö Lakers win the Swedish championship. In fact, he also has a couple of second-place finishes in major competitions this season – with Sweden at the World Junior Championship in Buffalo, New York and with his Lakers in the Champions Hockey League Final at home in Växjö.

Nečas has been a bit more under the radar than Pettersson, but he was still a key contributor to Kometa Brno’s conquest of the Czech Extraliga. He actually started the season with the NHL’s Carolina Hurricanes but was back home in Brno by the end of October, and helped Kometa reach the CHL Quarter-Finals. Two other members of Kometa Brno’s championship team are in this tournament playing for Slovakia – goalie Marek Čiliak and right winger Marcel Haščák. Also representing Slovakia is forward Pavol Slalický, who helped HC’05 Banská Bystrica win their second straight Slovak title.

Staying in Scandinavia, Janne Pesonen (Växjö), Miika Koivisto, Saku Maenalanen (both Kärpät Oulu) and Antti Suomela (JYP Jyväskylä) will all feature for Team Finland in Herning. The latter of course a CHL Champion this season, hoping to follow Joel Lundqvist as holding both European Club and International golds.

Switzerland is heavily represented by players from the domestic national league, and includes four players from champions ZSC Lions Zurich: defenceman Dave Suter and forwards Chris Baltisberger and Reto Schäppi. Lions' forward Ronalds Kenins has been called up to the Latvian team as well.

Olympic Silver Medalists Patrick Hager and Yannic Seidenberg, both of Red Bull Munich, play for Germany this year again, while teammate Mads Christensen will have the honour of playing for the host country. Fellow Dane Julian Jakobsen won the domestic league with Aalborg Pirates.

Belarus has a pair of clubs that won major championships this year – Neman Grodno won the domestic title and Yunost Minsk claimed the Continental Cup, and both teams are in the 2018/19 CHL because of it. Vitali Trus, Artyom Levsha and Artyom Kilsy have made the team from Neman and Pavel Razvadovsky and Nikita Ustinenko from Yunost.

Finally new Norwegian Champions Storhamar Hamar are represented by Steffen Thoresen and Christian Bull, as they look to cause an upset and get in on the medals.
