The Champions Hockey League Round of 16 ended in spectacular fashion last night with Lukko Rauma edging into the Quarter-Finals with an OT-winner and Genève-Servette coming back from 2-4 down on aggregate to seal their place in the Top 8 of the 2023/24 season.
And with six qualifiers on Tuesday, we now have a full line-up for the Quarter-Finals - here they all are!
Växjö Lakers
Reigning SHL champions the Växjö Lakers stormed through the Regular Season with six straight wins, missing out on top spot in the standings due to an inferior tie-breaker, and with a win and a draw from the Round of 16, the Swedes remain unbeaten as they gear up for the Quarter-Finals in early December.
Lukko Rauma
European heavyweights Lukko Rauma might have only lost a single game so far this season but the Finns had hard work with first-time CHL qualifiers HC Innsbruck in the Round of 16. Lots of missed opportunities and a poor powerplay display nearly cost them their season but a spectacular game-winner from Tarmo Reunanen got them through as the Liiga team eye another trip to the Semi-Finals (last time they made it that far was over six years ago!). They're also the sole remaining representatives of Finland this season.
Färjestad Karlstad
Swedish team Färjestad Karlstad are one of three SHL teams in the CHL Quarter-Finals this season. Färjestad's journey was a twisty one, as the 10-time national champions slotted an astonishing 11 goals in EHC Biel-Bienne's net across the two legs!
Skellefteå AIK
Skellefteå AIK are a team that need no introduction to any CHL fan. The Swedish veterans are playing in their eighth season on the pan-European stage and pulled off another masterclass by beating a very tough Oceláři Třinec side in the Round of 16. They've made it to the Quarter-Finals three times before, including last season, and have even gone as far as the Semi-Finals way back in 2015 - could they be our next European Club Champions?
Genève-Servette
Genève-Servette vs. Red Bull Munich was one of the toughest Round of 16 match-ups we saw and could have gone either way, but thanks to a hard-fought comeback in the final period, it went Genève's way. The reigning Swiss champions have been a really strong team this season, especially on home ice where they remain unbeaten, and their fans seem to be loving the European games - extra motivation for them?
Vítkovice Ridera
Two Czech teams in the Quarter-Finals doesn't happen often, in fact, the last time it did was in the 2018/19 season, so Vítkovice Ridera making the Top 8 is huge! You can argue that they were somewhat helped by a 3-0 forfeited win in Lahti, but they still had to hold that lead for a full 60 minutes of game time against a hungry Lahti Pelicans.
Dynamo Pardubice
2022/23 Czech Extraliga regular season winners Dynamo Pardubice are in the Quarter-Finals for the very first time and for anyone who's been watching the CHL closely this year, it won't come as a surprise. The traditional Czech club ousted serious contenders Ilves Tampere in the Round of 16 and sport a 4-1-3 record heading into December's games.
Rapperswil-Jona Lakers
Last but not least, it's the Rapperswil-Jona Lakers! The Swiss club qualified for the QFs by dispatching German giants and Regular Season winners Adler Mannheim 7-2 across two Round of 16 legs, and with results like that, it looks like they're rightly eying gold this season!
Stay tuned to our official channels in the coming days for the official Quarter-Finals schedule!
