Team Switzerland stand on the verge of history tomorrow as they play the 2018 IIHF World Championships Final.
The country has never won a gold medal in the world's top flight of hockey, but now face Sweden with the chance to change that. Two players on the Swiss team, Reto Schäppi and Chris Baltisberger, have already tasted Championship success this season and will now try to join an elite group of players to hold national and international gold in one season.
"It would be unbelievable," said Schäppi on maybe winning gold tomorrow after celebrating the Playoff title with ZSC Lions. "I want to get it so bad, and hope we can make it."
SC Bern netminder Leonardo Genoni saved 43 of 45 shots to help Switzerland to the 3-2 Semi-Final win over Canada, and Schaeppi was full of praise for his international teammate. "Genoni can decide games, and it was no surprise for me that he stepped up today. It's the most important thing tomorrow, we have no chance without an unbelievable goalie performance."
"It was a great effort by the whole team. We have so many good feelings" concluded the 27-year-old Lions' forward.
