There were some brilliant performances through the opening stage of this year’s Champions Hockey League, with players impressing across all the participating teams. However, only a select few can earn the right to be named on the 2026/27 Team of the Regular Season. Here's our pick of the ultimate six-player line-up:
GK | Calle Clang
Though Rögle Ängelholm had a tougher than expected start to their 2026/27 campaign among Europe's very best with two back-to-back losses, goaltender Calle Clang was not caugh out. The 24-year-old opened his third CHL campaign on Game Day 2, playing a major role in Rögle's game against Dynamo Pardubice, stopping 23/24 shots on the night.
And just like Rögle bounced back in style in their following games, Clang was there to be called upon. Great performances and epic saves followed in his next three appearances with the young Swedish goalie holding his team in crucial moments as he ultimately ended the Regular Season with a stellar 92.05% save percentage and a well-deserved place on our Team of the Regular Season!
DE | Carter Robertson
HC Pilsen were the team to beat in the Regular Season, finishing unbeaten with a perfect 18 points and the Regular Season Winners title to their name. Their +18 goal difference perfectly represents their style of play, with the Czechs being strong up front but equally tight around their own net - that's in large part thanks to towering D-man Carter Robertson.
The 26-year-old had an excellent start to his debut CHL season with seven points in six games played. The Canadian plays a strong two-way game, with a lot of back-and-forth skating and play in front of the net. That's all well and good but what attracted us to Robertson for our Team of the Season blue-line most was the fact that all seven of his points are assists, perfectly displaying his eye for the perfect set up pass and awareness.
DE | Nicolas Mattinen
Tall, strong, fast and attack-minded D-men are a huge asset in modern ice hockey and we think Adler Mannheim's Nicolas Mattinen is the ideal player that fits this category - and is a perfect fit alongside already-nominated Robertson.
196cm-tall Mattinen has played in all six Regular Season games for his club, scoring eight points (5G, 3A) over the September-October period. High ice time, a game-winner and stellar +5 +/- rating speak loudly of his contribution to a team and what we saw from him to give him our nod.
FW | Aapeli Räsänen
Finnish forward Aapeli Räsänen was one of the deadliest snipers across the Regular Season, especially on the powerplay! The 28-year-old scored a hattrick in the first game of the season - including scoring the very first goal of the 2026/27 Champions Hockey League season - and had a hand in nearly half of all goals Tappara Tampere scored across their opening six games.
Playing in all games of the opening phase of the season, Räsänen finished with 5G and 4A, with three powerplay strikes and a game-winner to his name. This consistent performer and special-unit play expert has a sure spot on our Team of the Regular Season, despite some of Tappara's Regular Season woes.
FW | Filip Zadina
Four goals, four assists, a game-winner and numerous powerplay strikes are the numbers HC Davos's Filip Zadina posted in his second CHL season and were what attracted us to him for our list of the six best after the Regular Season.
The ex-NHLer has displayed great special-unit play but has also carefully managed a team-focused and an individual approach to his game, making him a formidible and unreadable player to come up against on the ice. We think there's more to come from Zadina in the Playoffs so keep your eyes peeled!
FW | Marcel Noebels
You could say we've left the best for last and we would be inclined to agree, as Kölner Haie's Marcel Noebels had a phenomenal Regular Season - a season that saw the Cologne-based club return to the Champions Hockey League for the first time in over a decade.
A veteran of seven past seasons in Europe's biggest club ice hockey competition (from his time with Eisbären Berlin) mean he's not new to the competition, but Noebels has never hit the ice in this form. 12 points (7G, 5A) in six games firmly made him the Regular Season Top Scorer and secured him a place on our Team of the Regular Season as the stand-out offensive rocket that has done it all across the opening phase of the 2026/27 season.
