The 72 games of the Regular Season of Europe's biggest club ice hockey competition brought some big surprises, high scores and important moments. In no particular order, here's a look back at five moments that made this Champions Hockey League Regular Season truly special:
1) Sheffield Steelers Qualify for Playoffs
It went right down to Game Day 6, but the moment all British hockey fans were waiting for finally came during the game against Czech challengers Dynamo Pardubice. With their spot in the knockout rounds confirmed, the Sheffield Steelers became only the second-ever club from the EIHL To qualify for the Playoffs and the first to do so under the new competition format.
2) Debut Season, Debut Win
2024/25 was the very first time reigning Polish champions Unia Oświęcim participated in the Champions Hockey League and they were on point from the get-go. They started their season with a close OT loss against Ilves Tampere and had a repeat of a game going to overtime on Game Day 3 against Red Bull Salzburg. But they finally got into the winning mode on Game Day 4 against KAC Klagenfurt where they miraculously came back from 4-1 down with just over 17 minutes of game time left to win the game 5-4!
3) First Playoffs Qualifier
Färjestad Karlstad won all four of their September CHL games to become the very first team to qualify for the 2024/25 Playoffs. They kept to their ways across Game Days 5 and 6, picking up two more wins to secure them the Regular Season Winners crown as they ended the first phase of the competition as the only unbeaten team.
4) First Goal of the Season
Do you know we only had to wait 42 seconds after puck-drop of our season-opener between Dynamo Pardubice and Fehérvár AV19 to get our very first goal of 2024/25? An early penalty for the Hungarian team offered Czech side Pardubice a powerplay on which Peter Čerešňák converted to make the history books as the first goal-scorer of the season!
5) Who Scored 10 Goals in One Game?!
Yep, you read that right. The Lahti Pelicans ended their successful Regular Season with a very unusual 10-goal showing against France's Rouen Dragons. When was the last time your team scored 10 goals in one game? Nine different players made it onto the scoresheet with Luboš Horký being the only Pelicans player to strike twice.
