- Johan Ryno scored twice for Färjestad in GD1 win
- Ambrì-Piotta shutout in Munich despite having 47 shots on goal
- Vital game in quest for Group G qualification
The HC Ambrì-Piotta invasion heads to Sweden in Game Day 2, as the loud and proud Swiss fans make their way to Karlstad to face Färjestad on Saturday. The hosts had it all their own way on Thursday, but can expect a much tougher test at the weekend as Ambrì-Piotta are desperate to get their first win in CHL play.
Färjestad dominated their opening Group G game against HC05 Banská Bystrica. Speedy forward Johan Ryno scored twice in a 6-1 victory against the Slovak club, with a number of goals scored as the result of some flashy team play and slick passing. Goaltender Markus Svensson made 27 saves for the victory.
HC Ambrì-Piotta did absolutely everything but find the net against Red Bull Munich on Thursday. Danny aus den Birken was simply unbeatable in the Munich net, stopping all 47 of the shots he faced, whilst last years CHL MVP Trevor Parkes was in fine form, finding the back of the net twice. Star forwards Matt D’Agostini and Dominic Zwerger had 6 and 5 shots respectively, but couldn’t solve the aus den Birken puzzle. Their quest for their first CHL goal and CHL victory will continue on Saturday.
