- Devils top of Group H after 2 wins
- Mountfield shocked Frölunda in Gothenburg
- Devils won home game 3-2
Cardiff Devils head to the Czech Republic on top of a wide open Group H.
Mountfield lost their opening game of the new season in Cardiff, but their win in Gothenburg over Frölunda threw them back into the race to qualify with three of their last four games to play at home. Despite failing to make it out of the Group Stage in the past two seasons, their home form has tended to br strong - only Kärpät Oulu and Nottingham Panthers have left with wins from six games. A win on home ice will get Mountfield well back into the hunt for the playoffs, and while a loss wouldn't be catastrophic it would put pressure on Tomáš Martinec's side to beat Frölunda again.
The Devils find themselves in the driving seat of the group after two games days, but will know the job is far from done and that they'll have to find an historic first away win in the Champions Hockey League to have a realistic chance of making the next round - or rely on beating Frölunda in one of the final two games. A win in Hradec Kralové would move them clear of Mountfield by five points, while a point would at least keep Andrew Lord's team top of the group until Game Day 4.
