- Frölunda host Cardiff as both look to take control of Group H
- Frölunda looking for first win on home ice of the CHL season
- Cardiff hold top spot of Group H going into the final two Group Stage games.
It’s been a month since the last Champions Hockey League action, but the Group Stage comes to it’s conclusion over the next two weeks, and in Group H it’s still any bodies game as the Frölunda Indians host the Cardiff Devils as they both look to get top spot of the group heading into the final game day.
Frölunda didn’t have the strongest start to the campaign, with back-to-back losses over the Graz99ers and Mountfield HK, but as they played their previous two CHL games on the road, they picked up two wins to put themselves second in the group as they look to progress to the next round with their eyes on another CHL final appearance. Since their last action in the CHL, Frölunda have impressed in league action in the Swedish Hockey League, sitting in second place with five wins from eight games. Once again, Ryan Lasch is impressing for the reigning champions with six points in the CHL so far, continuing to extend his lead as the tournaments all time points leader, while Rhett Rakhshani is impressing in his second season with the side, putting up a team-leading 10 points in SHL action, and his five CHL points trail only to Lasch.
Cardiff come into the last two-games in top spot of Group H, picking up three victories in their first four games and putting themselves in a solid position as they look to be just the second British team to advance from the Group Stage after the Nottingham Panthers. Since their previous CHL game which ended in a big road win against the Graz99ers, the Devils have had a solid run of results in domestic action. In nine games since Game Day 4, the Devils have picked up six victories heading into Tuesday’s contest. Possibly the biggest news for the Welsh side is their newly appointed captain Joey Martin, who missed the first four CHL games through injury, is back in action and will be a key part of the Devils attempt to pick up the points necessary to advance to the next stage of competition. They’ll also rely heavily on Team GB goalie Ben Bowns who’s been impressive so far, facing 136 shots in his first four games in the Group Stage so far, the third most of any goalie in the tournament.
