In an unlikely turn of events, defending champions Frölunda host Mountfield HK with both teams looking for their first win of this Champions Hockey League season.
Frölunda lost out in a shootout at home to Graz in their opening game, this despite being two goals ahead after 62 seconds and being ahead going into the final three minutes. It is almost a ‘must-win’ game for Roger Rönnberg’s team, unless they want to do it the hard way with just one home game after this left in the Group Stage.
Mountfield led after a period in Cardiff on Friday night, but were beaten 3-1 in the end by the Elite League playoff champions in a game where penalty trouble cost them dearly. In their two previous seasons in this competition, the team have never managed an away win – and will almost have to get something in Gothenburg if they’re to keep their qualification hopes going.
