- Graz99ers and Cardiff Devils looking to bounce back from Game Day 3 losses
- Cardiff secured shootout victory in first meeting
- Colton Yellow Horn and Charles Linglet lead their teams with four points each
After this weekend's action, teams will have almost a month to prepare for their final two games in the Group Stage of this year's Champions Hockey League, so picking up points on Game Day 4 could prove to be vital as teams look to advance, and with positions in Group H so close, the Graz99ers and Cardiff Devils will be looking to get an advantage over each other on Saturday night.
The first meeting between the two sides offered a lot of excitement, as the teams traded goals, including a late goal by Graz when they sets met in Cardiff last week, it took a seven round shootout to determine a winner, and this weekends game could offer the same level of thrills.
Both sides are looking to bounce back from Thursday night where Graz were picked apart by the Frölunda Indians who finally claimed their first victory of the tournament. While the team were heavily outshot, it was the play of Christopher Nihlstorp in net that stood out for the Austrian side, and once again they’ll rely on him to lead the side from the back as they look to climb the standings in Group H and move up from bottom spot. Dwight King registered the only goal Graz managed in their loss to Frölunda, and he’ll be one of the offensive leaders for Graz against the Devils while Trevor Hamilton will look to repeat his two-goal performance in the first clash between the Austrian and Welsh side.
The Cardiff Devils had a fantastic showing on home ice last weekend, and they didn’t have the best start to their road trip following a 5-2 loss to Mountfield HK. They had a spell in the third where they looked in control, but it was too little, too late as two goals just seconds apart weren’t enough to turn their fortunes in the tie. They’ll be hoping for better on the road this time around, as they continue their quest to win their first CHL game away from home ice. The Devils recently signed Finnish forward Matias Sointu as injury cover with captain Joey Martin out of action, and he’s off to a great start with a goal and an assist through two-games, showing good chemistry with another Finn Masi Marjamäki, while once again Ben Bowns will be the go too guy between the pipes.
