- Graz host Mountfield in Group H action
- Graz99ers with three points from the opening four games
- Mountfield just a point behind second spot in the Group heading into the final two games.
With two games to go in the Group Stage of the 2019/20 Champions Hockey League season, it’s still open in Group H and the Graz99ers and Mountfield HK will look to pick up a crucial victory on Tuesday as they look to progress to the next round.
Graz will be looking to make the home ice pay off as they sit with three points from their opening four games, and they’ll need two big performances in the next two games to keep their qualification hopes alive. To start the campaign, the Austrian side went to a shootout as they opened the campaign on the road, picking up their lone win on Game Day 1 against the Frölunda Indians, before coming up short in their second game against the Cardiff Devils. They didn’t fare too well in their home games against the same opponents with back-to-back losses. Since their last CHL game however, Graz have performed well in the EBEL, picking up five wins in seven contests, entering the final two Group Stage games in second place in the league, with a strong defensive record as well with just 12 goals against in league action, as goalie Cristopher Nilhstorp continues to impress following a move from the Malmö Redhawks.
Mountfield on the other hand have progression to the next round in their sights as they’re just a point behind the second spot in Group H with six points and the Czech side will be looking to qualify for the next round in their third CHL appearance. With two wins and two losses so far, Mountfield had a decent start to the campaign. In domestic action, they’ve had a mixed bag of results with four wins and four losses, including three losses in a row heading into Tuesday’s game. They’ve had a great start from Radek Smoleňák who’s scored five goals and had five assists in league action, and will be a key contributor over the next two games as Mountfield continue their quest to progress to the next round of competition.
