- Both teams already eliminated from Playoff contention
- 3 of HPK's 4 CHL games gone to overtime or shootout
- Rungsted still searching for first CHL win
Group B is the only group in this year’s CHL campaign where the Playoff qualifiers are already known. Unfortunately for both HPK Hämeenlinna and Rungsted Seier Capital, who face off in Finland on Game Day 5, have already missed the boat on making the Round of 16 in their debut campaigns.
It could have been oh so different for Finnish Champions HPK Hämeenlinna, who have had three of their four games go to overtime or penalty shots. However, two home losses against HC Pilsen and EV Zug on Game Days 3 and 4 sealed their fate. All that remains now is to play for pride, and the Finnish side will be looking to build confidence against a Rungsted side who have struggled to find any sort of form in the CHL this season. The defending Finnish Liiga Champions have had a similarly shaky start in their domestic league, sitting in 9th place after just 3 wins in 10 games. Look for the team’s Top Scorer Jere Innala, who has 5 points in 4 CHL games, to be eager to find the net and get the confidence back in his game.
It has been a rough start to the season for defending Danish Champions. Losing 4 CHL games by a combined score of 7-23, and also bottom of the Metal Ligaen with 2 wins from 7 games. They will be desperate for a positive showing in Finland to boost the team’s morale and take that form back to their domestic competition. Look for forward Mario Lucia to continue his scoring form for Rungsted, as he heads the team with 2 goals in 4 games.
