- Djurgården have never made it to the Semi-Finals, Munich were finalists last season
- Munich haven't lost a home game all season, DEL or CHL
- Djurgården have a 4-goal advantage from the first leg
After a heavy 1-5 loss on the road against Djurgården Stockholm, Red Bull Munich have had a week to prepare for their most important game of the season.
In that time, they have played two DEL matches – winning and losing one, but more worryingly conceding eight goals in the process. Keeping pucks out of their own net is something that they have been struggling with ever since star goalie Danny aus den Birken picked up in an injury late last month – without him, the Red Bulls have conceded an average of over three goals per game. They have a long road ahead of them on Tuesday night, but if they are to stand a chance against Djurgården, they will have to strengthen up in defence and give their attackers the chance and space they need to turn the score around.
After topping off a three-game winning streak with an impressive 5-1 rout of a feared Munich side, Djurgården geared up for a mid-week trip to Gothenburg to face fellow CHL rivals and three-time CHL champions Frölunda Indians. Despite the intense match finishing 2-1 for the home side and ending Djurgården’s four-game winning streak, the hosts put up a very good performance. With a four-goal advantage from the first game, they have a very solid cushion to fall back on, but Munich’s frightening home record of four wins, three clean sheets and a single conceded goal in four CHL games would spook even the best of teams. The Olympia-Eisstadion is real fortress for the German club - they haven't lost a home game all season, DEL or CHL and the arena has been witness to some of their best performances all season. The perfect stage for the comeback they need.
Djurgården already made history when they qualified for the Quarter-Finals for their first time ever and they will now without doubt do everything they can to hold on to their lead from the first leg to secure their very first Semi-Finals spot, whilst Munich are surprisingly underdogs in a series for once. Can the Bavarian giants turn around their four-goal deficit to make the Semi-Finals for a second year running?
Tom Nilsson scored the first goal of the game at 22:24.
