- Frölunda come into Game Day 6 in top spot of Group H
- Cardiff Devils need a regulation win to progress to the next round
- Frölunda took a huge 9-2 win in the first meeting
With 10 of the 16 spots in the next round still up for grabs in the 2019/20 Champions Hockey League season, it’s going to be a huge Game Day 6 as the final places are decided. In Group H, the Frölunda Indians head to Wales to take on the Cardiff Devils, with three of the four teams still in with a chance at progressing.
It’s a must win game for the Cardiff Devils but a big task ahead against the reigning champions. Last week the Devils suffered a huge 9-2 loss in their trip to Sweden to take on Frölunda, but with back-to-back victories in domestic action since they’ll be hoping to ride that momentum into their final game in the Group Stage, as they look to become just the second side from the EIHL to make it to the next round. Matias Sointu was a late addition to the squad, missing out on their opening game of the CHL campaign, but with five-points through four games, he comes into the game as the teams leading scorer in the competition, and a big part of the Devils attack.
For Frölunda, just a point will do to keep their quest to defend their title from last season. Even a regulation loss could still see them through if results go their way between Mountfield HK and the Graz99ers. They had a huge performance last week, led by their captain Joel Lundqvist who registered three goals, all on the powerplay, so if the Devils fall into ill-discipline again, they’ll know exactly what to do to emulate last weeks performance. Despite not starting the campaign strong with back-to-back losses, Frölunda have really turned things around and will be keen to continue that on Tuesday.
