- Swiss side lead by a goal
- Defending champions came back from three down in Round of 16
- Biel-Bienne looking for first ever Semi-Final appearance
It's all to play for in the second leg of the 2019/20 Champions Hockey League Quarter-Finals, and there's only goal separating EHC Biel-Bienne as they host the Frölunda Indians with both teams looking to progress to the next round.
Biel surprised reigning champions Frölunda last week, despite being heavily outshot. An incredible performance in net by Jonas Hiller helped the Swiss side to victory. Hiller stopped a total of 50 shots in the first leg, only allowing two in the final period as Frölunda tried to mount a comeback. At that point, Biel already had a three-goal lead thanks to second period goals from Jason Fuchs and Damien Brunner, and an early goal in the third by Marc-Antoine Pouliot. Following their first leg victory, Biel will have confidence going into the second leg at home where they are yet to lose in their first CHL campaign. In their one domestic game since the first leg, they did suffer defeat, but with a place in the next round on the line on Tuesday, they'll still have confidence that they can put in another solid performance.
For Frölunda, this isn't exactly new territory for them coming into the second leg trailing. They put in a heroic performance in the second leg of the Round of 16, coming from three goals behind to win 8-2 in their second leg against Färjestad Karlstad. With the two goals they managed in the third period last week, that will give Frölunda confidence and momentum going into Tuesday night, after goals from Nicklas Lasu and Joel Mustonen. The Swedish side will have to find more ways to solve the strong goaltending shown by Biel all tournament long, but with a competition best 47-goals this year, they know they have the firepower to complete the comeback.
