- Rungsted's CHL debut
- EV Zug one of five teams to play all CHL seasons
- Danish Champions vs Swiss Second-Place Finisher
Group B action in Zug today, as EV Zug host Danish Champions and CHL debutants Rungsted Seier Capital. It looks to be a tough start for the Danish club, as Zug have a whole host of CHL experience with this being their sixth season in the competition. However, anything can happen on any night in the Champions Hockey League!
EV Zug finished 2nd in the National League Regular Season and were beaten Finalists to rivals SC Bern. Despite their long history of domestic success, Zug have yet to reach the Quarter-Finals, so will be looking to get their European campaign off to a fantastic start against Rungsted. Over the summer, the team has strengthened in a number of key areas. Out goes Tobias Stephan, but in comes perhaps the most consistent Swiss goalie over the last 5-6 years, Leonardo Genoni. Another major addition is high-scoring Czech forward Jan Kovář, who moved from HC Pilsen, and Swedish forward Erik Thorell, who was in the top ten for Liiga scoring last season.
Rungsted Seier Capital won the Danish title this year for the first time since 2013. The team has grown steadily over the last few seasons, and will now look to make their mark in Europe. There has been significant change over the off-season, with a number of key players such as Swedish forward Robin Bergman and Tim Daly moving on, or in the case of the former, retiring. Rungsted have been bolstered by a quartet of new North American signings. Mario Lucia has signed from Norwegian club Stavanger Oilers, joining T.J. Moore, Willie Raskob and Shane Hanna as new additions.
