- Swiss side need a win to qualify for Playoffs
- Grenoble have already won in Sweden in 2019/20
- Bern won first game between the teams 4-1
Three teams are still in the Group E Playoff race heading into Game Day 6. Grenoble, who can’t qualify for the Playoffs, host a SC Bern side desperate to make the Round of 16 for the fourth season in a row. The permutations for Group E are complicated, but a regulation win will guarantee SC Bern a Playoff place, as they currently hold the tiebreak over Kärpät Oulu if the Finnish side were to win in overtime, which would leave three teams tied on 11 points.
If there is any indication as to how strong Group E has been – Four out of five SC Bern games have been tied after regulation, and three of them have gone to a shootout. In the reverse game on Game Day 5, SC Bern defeated Grenoble 4-1, but the Swiss club’s record has been blemished by two shootout losses to Skellefteå AIK. Bern will once again be relying on the scoring of Mark Arcobello and Alain Berger, who have six and four points respectively.
Unfortunately, Grenoble have been unable to repeat Rouen Dragons’ success of 2018/19 and reach the Playoffs. The French side, who were drawn in one of the toughest groups this season, have played spirited hockey, which included a historic win in Sweden against Skellefteå. They will need to find a way to get more pucks to the net though, as in Game Day 5’s clash against Bern, they were outshot almost two to one. Damien Fleury has been the star of the show, scoring 3 goals in 5 games for the French Champions. However, look for Alexander Aleardi to set things up for Grenoble. He has yet to record a point in CHL play but has had a remarkable start to the French domestic season, recording a staggering 17 assists in 10 games.
