- Group E, labelled as this year's "Group of Death", means each and every point can make a difference at the end of the Group Stage
- Grenoble were very strong on faceoffs in their first match against Kärpät Oulu
- Liiga Regular Season Winner vs. French Champions
After losing 1-3 to Kärpät Oulu, Grenoble line up for yet another away game, making the short journey from Oulu to face Skellefteå. Their return to the CHL after 3 years of absence sadly didn’t end in a win, but they put up a very good performance against a strong Kärpät Oulu side and French international Damien Fleury even managed to score from a powerplay. Despite being second-best in most aspects of the game on the night, Grenoble proved to be very strong on faceoffs and in penalty killing, which could cause Skellefteå some problems.
Skellefteå come into Game Day 2 off the back of a shootout win in a very hard-fought victory over SC Bern. The match saw Skellefteå come back from a goal down twice and tie the game at 2-2 just 3 and a half minutes before the final whistle. Joakim Lindström, who finished the night with 2 goals (1 in regulation and the shootout winner) and 1 assist, proved to be the key player for Skellefteå and will most certainly play a vital role in the tie against Grenoble.
After dropping points against Bern, Skellefteå will look to bring home all three points this time, as every point can make the difference in a very tough Group E.
