- GKS Tychy won home game against Vienna 4-2
- Both teams cannot qualify for Playoffs
- Tychy looking for first Polish away win
In what will be both teams’ final game in the 2019/20 Champions Hockey League season, GKS Tychy head to Vienna to face the Capitals in a rematch of Game Day 5’s thrilling contest which saw the Polish club record a historic 4-2 victory against their Austrian opponents. Filip Komorski was the star of the show, scoring two fantastic goals to the delight of the capacity crowd.
Vienna Capitals will be left to rue another disappointing CHL campaign. The Austrian side have now failed to make the Playoffs in four straight years, and head into Game Day 6 with nothing to play for but pride. Apart from a fantastic 6-3 away win against Djurgården Stockholm, it has really been tough going for the Capitals, especially at home, where they have lost both previous games by a combined score of 8-2. Rafael Rotter is the only Capitals player to have scored more than one goal, whilst netminders Ryan Zapolski and Bernhard Starkbaum both have a save percentage of below 90.0%. The Capitals’ sharpshooters will be looking to find their form against a Tychy side which has notoriously not travelled well in European competition.
Last Tuesday’s win for Tychy was just the second for a Polish club in the history of the Champions Hockey League. Tychy came close against Adler Mannheim on Game Day 2, losing in overtime against Adler Mannheim, and they certainly have been no punching bag in Group F. However, they have been shutout in both of their previous away games in this year’s competition but come into GD6 full of confidence. Netminder John Murray has been the star of the show for the Polish Champions, and currently has a save percentage of 94.2%.
