- Teams faced off on GD1 – Zug won 5-2
- Rungsted looking for first ever CHL points
- Zug aiming to bounce back from HPK defeat
This game features two teams who are going to be desperate for a win. The hosts, Rungsted Seier Capital, struggled in their opening CHL weekend, dropping both games by a combined score of 14-5. They will really need to step up their game on the defensive side of the puck. On the other hand, EV Zug will be looking to return to winning ways, after losing their GD2 clash with HPK in a shootout.
Rungsted did not disgrace themselves in their CHL debut against the highly fancied Swiss side. However, in GD2 against HC Pilsen, the Danish side really looked outmatched. In particular, Pilsen captain and last season’s MVP nominee Milan Gulaš racked up 6 points as the Danish side simply couldn’t keep pace. One positive for Rungsted has been the performance of new signing Mario Lucia, who has scored in both games he has played in so far.
On the other hand, Zug’s start to the 2019/20 campaign may have left a little bit to be desired. They failed to truly dismantle Rungsted, before losing the lead three times against HPK before eventually losing in the shootout. Against HPK, Zug showed the strength of their powerplay, but they will need their 5-on-5 scoring to improve if they wish to mount a serious challenge for the European Trophy. Zug have a wealth of talent up and down their lineup, and as predicted by us, Lino Martschini leads the way with four points in 2 games so far. Gregory Hofmann is also one to watch, after he scored 2 goals against HPK
