- After COVID-19 related postponements, Tappara and Munich finally clash
- Tappara are the hosts of single game Semi-Final
- Winner will advance straight to the Final and take on Rögle Ängelholm on 1 March
After weeks of delay, the final spot in the Final of this year’s Champions Hockey League will be decided, as Tappara Tampere and Red Bull Munich meet in a single game affair, with the victor moving on to take on Rögle Ängelholm to fight to be crowned champions of Europe.
Tappara will host the Semi-Final in their new Nokia Arena, and they’ll hope that playing at home will help them move on even further in the competition.
It’s been a great season for the Finnish side, who finally got past the Round of 16, and now are one win away from going for glory. Since their last CHL fixture against the Rouen Dragons in December, Tappara have been on a fine run of form, winning seven of their eight games in domestic action ever since, the most recent being a 7-1 victory that saw Kyle Platzer register three points, and the Canadian forward enters the Semi-Final as the team’s leading goal scorer with four in the CHL so far, in a team that has seen goalscoring shared quite evenly through the roster.
For Red Bull Munich, they’re hoping to move on to their second CHL Final, and to do so they’ll need to upset the home crowd in their trip to Finland. The Germans haven’t had the greatest run of form since their last CHL contest, only picking up four wins in their last 12 contests, but when it comes to the CHL they know what it takes to win, and they’ll be looking to do just that on Tuesday night with just one more place in the Final up for grabs.
They'll have to be in tip top form for Tuesday's game if they are to seal their spot in the 2021/22 Final, as many vital team members will be missing due to the Olympic Games - Danny aus den Birken, Frederik Tiffels, Ben Street, Patrick Hager, Yasin Ehliz and more are all in China with their National teams and will not feature in the CHL this time around.
