- Helsinki host Swiss side Zurich in a monumental match-up
- Zurich topped CHL Champions Frölunda in their last game
- Can Zurich stay out of the penalty box and cut back on penalty minutes?
In what can only be described as a brutally physical first game, IFK Helsinki took their first win on the road against Swiss hosts, the ZSC Lions Zurich. The intense physicality culminated in over 100 penalty minutes for Zurich, stifling their game, and any hope of offensive chances.
In their second games, both teams notched wins. Helsinki had a rocky start but managed to come back from a deficit and win in OT to beat their Czech rivals BK Mladá Boleslav 2-1. Although they dropped a point, the Finnish side are still two-for-two, and can now look forward to having the home ice advantage in their next two games.
Zurich pulled off a phenomenal 4-2 win against reigning CHL Champions Frölunda Gothenburg, sending a strong message to all the teams in Group B. The game between the two teams was tight, with both teams staying within a goal of each other for most of the night, but Zurich did a superb job defending the Swedes, and if they had better luck on their powerplay they may have extended their lead even further.
Helsinki currently hold a 100% success rate on their penalty kill, while Zurich lag behind just slightly at 90%. On the goaltending front, Helsinki netminder Michael Garteig holds a 0.981% save percentage after two games, while Zurich's Ludovic Waeber is at 0.944% after one start.
Can Helsinki notch a third win, or will the Swiss side come back to topple the Finns? Don't miss out on the action!
