- Klagenfurt have already qualified for the Round of 16
- Donbass will play their last CHL game of the 2021/22 season
- Klagenfurt sit at the top of Group G with 13 points
KAC Klagenfurt have already qualified for the Round of 16 with 13 points over five games in Group G. Sadly for HC Donbass Donetsk, their next game against the Austrian side will be their last of the 2021/22 Champions Hockey League season. Although the Ukrainian side will bow out early, their results have been good for a debuting team.
In five games, Donbass have never had a loss of more than one goal. They've taken one game to a shootout and lost, one game to OT and lost, and most recently, had clawed their way back into the game against Klagenfurt, only to get scored on in the last minutes of the game. While lady luck has not been kind to this team, the Ukrainian side have shown without doubt, that they're both fierce competitors and ready to challenge any team.
Keep an eye out for Donbass forwards Andrei Biriukov, and Ukraine native,21-year-old Oleksandr Peresunko. The duo have netted eight points over five games and have been the top scorers for the Ukrainian side.
For the Austrians, 32-year-old Canadian forward Nicholas Petersen has been the go-to man with seven points in five games. Slovenian teammate Rok Tičar and Austrian native Lukas Haudum have been equally reliable offensive contributors, averaging a point per game. Netminder Sebastian Dahm hasn't missed a minute, and has conceded just seven goals in 301 minutes of playing time.
