- SALZBURG CAN EXTEND WIN STREAK TO THREE GAMES
- ASKER SEEK FIRST POINTS AFTER TWO DEFEATS
- SALZBURG DEFEATED ASKER 6-2 IN PREVIOUS MEETING
Red Bull Salzburg and Frisk Asker face each other for the second time in Group H with each side enduring differing fortunes at the start of their Champions Hockey League campaigns.
Salzburg head into the game as group leaders following back-to-back wins. Frisk Asker, meanwhile, have lost both of their opening games and travel to Austria looking to avenge their recent 6-2 loss to Salzburg and in search of their first points of the season.
The first meeting between the two teams proved to be a feisty occasion littered with penalties and powerplay goals from both teams. The first period finished 1-1, before Salzburg found their stride, scoring four unanswered goals to assume control.
Viktor Granholm’s third period penalty shot goal temporarily reduced the deficit for Asker but Ty Loney added a sixth for Salzburg with his second power play goal of the night.
Frisk Asker were unable to bounce back from that defeat, losing 5-1 to HC Bolzano in their last outing, allowing three goals in the final frame. Salzburg continued their strong start by adding a 3-2 victory over JKH GKS Jastrzębie.
There remains plenty to play for in Group H and both teams remain in control of their own destiny as far as qualification is concerned.
