- Turku with a mountain to climb heading into the final two games
- Växjö sit second in the group
- Turku must win both games to have a chance at qualifying
For TPS Turku, they have left themselves a mountain to climb heading into the final two Group Stage games of this year's Champions Hockey League, with no room for error when they take on the Växjö Lakers.
The two sides met first in Finland, with Turku currently on one point from their first four games, needing two regulation wins and some favourable results elsewhere to keep their qualification hopes alive.
Turku haven't had much luck finding the back of the net through their opening four games, something they'll hope to rectify when the next two games begin. American Mitch Hults leads the team in goals with two, while only three other players have found the back of the net so far.
Each of their opening four games have been low scoring affairs, and three of those games were decided by one goal, and crucially for Turku, one was decided in a shootout, with Sparta Prague coming out on top after the shootout which did give Turku a point in the standings that kept their qualification hopes alive.
Växjö have seven points and sit second in Group A currently, and will hope to remain in the qualification spots by the end of the next two games. The 2017/18 CHL finalists have been led offensively by forward Richard Gynge with three goals, while young forward Olle Lycksell has five points to his name on a team that has scored nine through the opening four games.
In goal, Växjö have had success with Latvian Janis Kalnins who has played in three games in the CHL so far, and only conceded five.
