- TPS Turku celebrate their 100th anniversary as they enter 7th CHL season
- CHL welcomes its first Slovenian club
- Upcoming match to be the first of Group B
TPS Turku join three other Finnish clubs going head to head in the 2022/23 Champions Hockey League season. Despite making their way into the Liiga final last year, Turku have yet to reach such heights in the CHL as for the past three seasons, the club have been unable to secure their place beyond the Group stage.
Jussi Ahoka, Head Coach of Turku, spoke about his team’s goals in the upcoming season saying: “it will be a great challenge to play in the CHL. We will have to play at the highest level to get some good results and every game is a new chance and we need to make the most of it against every opponent.”
When asked about other teams in his side's group, Ahoka referred to Olimpija Ljubljana as “a new challenge for us, they could be a “dark horse” in our group, so we have to play at a very high level to beat them.”
As newcomers to both the ICE and CHL, Ljubljana are eager to make a name for themselves as they burst onto the European hockey scene. To do just that, CEO Anze Ulcar notes that his club needs to get prepared “sports-wise and organization-wise.”
Ljubljana Head Coach Mitja Sivic had this to say about his team's upcoming match against TPS Turku: “the whole world knows what Finnish hockey stands for. They are a very good team and it’s a privilege to play against them. We will try to give them a little bit of a challenge.”
