- Debutants GKS Katowice went full throttle in their first game against defending CHL champions Rögle, but just came up short
- ZSC Lions Zurich tallied a solid 7-1 result on their road trip against Fehérvár AV19
- It's a first time faceoff for the two teams
GKS Katowice went head to head with Swedish side Rögle Ängelholm in their CHL debut. An incredible effort saw the Polish side lead the game for two periods until the Swedes fought their way back into the game in the third period. Losing 5-4 in their opening game to the defending CHL champions can only be described as a phenomenal start to their season, and something debuting teams rarely achieve. Polish forwards Bartosz Fraszko and Grzegorz Pasiut were the main contributors for Katowice with two points each (1G, 1A).
ZSC Lions Zurich had a flying start to their season, taking Hungarian debutants Fehérvár AV19 7-1, including goal number one in the opening minute of the game. Alexandre Texier led the offense with three points (1G, 2A). Aside from a lapse in the second period, Head Coach Rikard Grönborg was pleased with the performance of the team stating: "I think we came out really really well, obviously scoring right away. The second period was more their (Fehérvár's) style, back and forth a little too much, and the third period we put the hammer down".
With an impressive first away game in hand, Zurich can't afford to underestimate their Polish opponents, but off the back of a convincing first game, the Swiss team will be looking to secure points and a vital second win. Can Katowice repeat their performance against another well-experienced contender in their Group or will Zurich come out on top?
