- Davos beat Třinec 4-0 last week
- Davos secure 1st in Group H with regulation win
- Třinec want to finish with a win
Heading into the last Group H game for both Oceláři Třinec and HC Davos, both teams essentially know their fate in this year’s Champions Hockey League. As a result of last week’s 4-0 Davos win over Třinec, Davos know they will progress on to the Round of 16 and Třinec’s CHL journey will come to an end following Tuesday's game.
However, Davos’ final placement within the group is still to be determined. As things now stand, Davos have 12 points, giving them a one-point lead over Skellefteå AIK, who have also secured their place in the final 16. With Davos’ game starting earlier than Skellefteå’s against the Belfast Giants, the Swiss team enter this game only knowing that a regulation win will allow them to secure first place, and that’s what they’ll set out to achieve.
As for Třinec, they know they will finish third in Group H no matter what happens on Game Day 6, but the one-time Semi-Finalists would like to finish an otherwise disappointing campaign with a win against an advancing team.
In last week’s meeting, Davos outshot Třinec 18-9. Sandro Aeschlimann stopped all nine shots for the shutout, while Julian Schmidt led Davos’ offence with a goal and an assist. On the other side, veteran defenceman Jakub Jeřábek led all players on both teams with 24:58 of ice time.
Since the game last week, both teams had two scheduled domestic league games. Davos lost to Fribourg-Gottéron and beat HC Lugano, both by 3-2 scores, and now sit fourth in the National League with 9 points in 18 games. Třinec’s scheduled Friday night game against Mountfield HK was postponed due to Třinec’s difficult journey back from Davos and then they hosted HC Litvínov on Sunday. The four-time Czech Extraliga champs are off to a tough start domestically as well, sittong on eight points in seven games.
