- Wolfsburg took Ljubljana 7-2 in their first match up
- Ljubljana managed two close games against TPS Turku but remain without points
- Wolfsburg are two points behind Turku in Group B
Grizzlys Wolfsburg have secured a single win over Olimpija Ljubljana in Group B so far, but have had no luck in their other games. In both matchups, the German side were bettered by their Swiss rivals EV Zug, however, their most recent game saw a tight 3-4 loss in OT as the Grizzlys pushed for points.
Canadian forward Tyler Morley and Luis Schinko have been Wolfsburg's main offensive contributors, combining for nine points in total. Morley has netted five points (2G, 3A) while Schinko sits just behind with a tally of four (3G, 1A).
After 120 minutes of playing time Dustin Strahlmeier posts a save percentage of 91.55, bolstered by a solid performance in his last game where he faced 53 shots from Zug.
On the other side of the bench, and aside from their 7-1 loss to Wolfsburg, Ljubljana have managed two close games against Finnish magnates TPS Turku, going down 2-3 in their debut game, and 2-4 in their rematch. Although the Slovenians couldn't wrangle a win, and were outshot 20-42, they managed to limit the damage.
Jaka Sodja leads the offensive charge for Olimpija with three points (2G, 1A) in three games. Slovenian netminder Žan Us has played the bulk of the minutes for his side, conceding 12 goals for a save percentage of 86.96, while Canadian teammate Anthony Morrone has made a limited appearance in multiple games.
The Slovenians have a difficult challenge ahead of them, but have already proven they can skate witih Europe's best. With two solid performances against Turku, if Ljubljana can muster up some magic, they might be able to secure their first Champions Hockey League win. For currently third-ranked Wolfsburg, who are two points behind Turku, a win is an absolute must if they're to advance in the competition.
