- Rögle took the last game in a 3-2 OT victory
- Zurich need better execution on special teams
- Both teams have already qualified for the Playoffs
ZSC Lions Zurich will be looking for a better result as they welcome Rögle Ängelholm to Kunsteisbahn Dübendorf for their second match. In their previous contest, the Swiss side mounted a late comeback to force OT, but it was Rögle who would go on to score in the extra session to take it by a final of 3-2.
So far through their seventh CHL campaign, the runners-up in the NL last year have been enjoying some of their best hockey, posting a 4.00 goals per game average to go along with 1.60 goals against per game, tied for third best in the league. The Swiss side’s Mikko Lehtonen has also been dominating from a defensive perspective and is ranked as the third-best blueliner in the CHL with one tally and six assists through five contests.
As they prepare to host the reigning CHL champions, Zurich will be looking for better execution with their special teams. Right now, the Swiss are clicking at a 17.65% on the powerplay and 82.35% on the penalty kill, good enough for 17th and 18th place, respectively.
Meanwhile, Rögle have been engineering another masterclass in how to win hockey games. The Swedish side enter Tuesday’s tilt with a perfect record and are operating at a statistically better rate than Zurich in almost all categories, including a higher powerplay conversion rate (26.09%) and fewer powerplay goals against.
Adam Tambellini leads the Swedes in scoring with seven points (3G,4A) followed by Riley Sheen and two young superstars in Marco Kasper and defenceman William Wallinder each of whom have amassed six points – Sheen (5G,1A), Kasper (2G,4A), and Wallinder (6A).
To keep their hot streak alive, Rögle will need to recreate their start from last week that saw them notch the first goal just two and half minutes into the first and maintain that effort for a full 60 minutes.
