- Mannheim able to find the net in all situations
- Innsbruck need more production from top players
- Both clubs enter the contest with a 2-1 record
After dropping their first contest to Vítkovice Ridera, Red Bull Munich have now won two in a row with their latest being a decisive 5-2 decision over HC Košice. HC Innsbruck come into this contest having claimed victory over the Belfast Giants with a 2-1 final, their second win in three games.
The Germans came to play in the opening period of their first home game, and the home crowd were rewarded for it. Two goals in the first, followed by three more before the final horn, put Munich over three goals a game for the first time in the season.
A powerplay marker to start the scoring and four even-strength tallies showcased Munich’s ability to put the puck in the net in all situations, and it’s this same scoring prowess that could help boost them past an Innsbruck club that has allowed an average of three goals against per game.
The last time Innsbruck were on the road, they suffered a tough defeat, surrendering six goals to EHC Biel-Bienne while only netting one of their own. But a bounce-back effort at home against Belfast could be what the team need to stabilise their confidence as they travel to face a German club who is tied for third-place in fewest goals against at 2.00 and tied for sixth-place in goals for per game with 3.33.
To have a chance at improving their record to 3-1, Innsbruck, who are currently ranked in 15th place with goals scored at eight, will need more production from their top scorers. So far through three games, only six players have multiple points, and most of them came in their Game Day 1 win over Genève-Servette. Since then, the Austrians have only scored three times in the span of 120 minutes of hockey.
