- Lukko have one of the better goals for in the league
- Mannheim are among the best in PK percentage
- Teams are facing each other for the first time since 2021/22
Lukko Rauma handed Rapperswil-Jona Lakers their second consecutive loss, defeating the Swiss side 5-2 to increase their point total to six. Adler Mannheim, however, dropped to a 2-1 record after falling to Tappara Tampere 2-1 in the shootout. Lukko will meet Mannheim for their third CHL contest - the last time the two teams faced each other was in the 2021/22 campaign when they each won on home ice.
Mannheim’s Korbinian Holzer knotted things up with less than five minutes to go in the third, in a game where the Germans could have added even more if not for the exceptional play of Tappara’s Christian Heljanko. The Germans outshot and outplayed the Finns for most of the contest but their inability to finish on pucks would be their undoing. Going forward, however, Mannheim have plenty to be proud of. Through three contests, the Germans continue to be one of the top in penalty kill percentage with 100.00% and have only allowed six goals.
However, their 15th-ranked goals for is a cause for concern as they have only secured eight total tallies. Consequently, Mannheim’s offence will need some tweaking ahead of their match-up with Lukko.
For the Finns, scoring hasn’t been an issue as they’ve managed to pot 14 tallies through their first three contests giving them an average of 4.67 goals for per game which is good enough for third-place league wide. However, only three of those 14 have come on the powerplay as Lukko haven’t had much success with the man-advantage. This stat may be difficult to change as they take on one of the league’s best penalty kills, but solving Mannheim's PK could give the Finns their third win in as many games.
