- Genève have won two in a row, Klagenfurt have lost three in a row
- Genève's Michael Špaček is CHL's co-points leader with eight in four games
- Klagenfurt's Nicholas Petersen has five assists
Genève-Servette and KAC Klagenfurt are two teams on the Champions Hockey League Playoff bubble who really need to win on Game Day 5. For defending European Club Champions Genève, it’s their last home game of the Regular Season and they find themselves currently one point above of the cut-off line.
They started slow on the road but have fought their way back into contention with a pair of home-ice victories. Klagenfurt’s situation, however, is more dire. They began with a win in France but since then have lost three in a row – most recently to Polish champs Unia Oświęcim, where they blew a 4-1 third-period lead on home ice to lose 5-4. Another loss will likely finish their Playoff hopes.
Individually, Michael Špaček is tied for the CHL scoring lead with eight points, is tied for second in goals with four and leads outright in powerplay goals with three. Defenceman Simon Le Coultre leads the CHL with 14 blocked shots and Sami Vatanen has the second-highest average time on ice at 26:02. Genève has the CHL’s ninth-best powerplay at 22.22% but their PK is second-best at 93.33%
One of Klagenfurt’s issues has been offence – they’ve only scored 10 goals in four games, with Nicholas Petersen figuring in on six of them. Defenceman Jesper Jensen Abo leads the team with 22:01 on ice per game and is the team’s co-leader in blocked shots with seven – the other is forward Thomas Hundertpfund, who is also a key piece of the team’s offence with two powerplay goals. Klagenfurt have the CHL’s eighth-ranked powerplay at 25.00%.
