Pinguins Bremerhaven qualified for the 2024/2025 season of the Champions Hockey League following an amazing season in the DEL where the German club won the regular season and fought for the title with Eisbären Berlin in the DEL finals. They return to the CHL to take on Europe’s top teams, starting with their first opponent of the season - reigning CHL Champions Genève-Servette.

Genève returned to the CHL last season after a seven-year absence and made it to the very top by defeating Skellefteå AIK 3-2 in the Final to claim the title of European Club Champions. Powered by the confidence from this victory, they are on a mission to defend their CHL throne. To bolster their chances, they have taken onboard three new forwards from rivals in the National League: Markus Granlund, Michael Špaček, and Luca Hischier. Additionally, defenceman Eric Schneller has joined from Rögle Ängelholm's U20 team.

However, Bremerhaven shouldn’t be overlooked. They have shown significant improvement over the years and dominated the DEL regular season this past year, despite falling short against Eisbären Berlin in the Finals. They too have strengthened their defence by signing Matt Abt from Lukko Rauma and have put their fortune into new hands with Alexander Sulzer being named Head Coach.   

With both teams in excellent form, it will be an intriguing matchup for sure. Pay close attention to the Slovenian Urbas/Verlič duo, who have been crucial to Bremerhaven’s success last season. Also watch out for Sakari Manninen, Sami Vatanen, and Tanner Richard, who are all experienced players and are sure to make an impact for Swiss side Genève.
