- Both teams look for first points of the season
- SønderjyskE look to score their first goal
- Both teams have problems on the penalty kill
Red Bull Salzburg will once again take to home ice as they welcome Denmark's SønderjyskE Vojens to the Eisarena in Austria. Both teams are still searching for their first victory and points on the leaderboard, making Game Day 2 an ideal opportunity to change that.
Salzburg kicked off their CHL campaign against one of the toughest opponents of the bunch, Skellefteå AIK. Although they didn’t secure the win, they sure came close. The two teams were neck and neck throughout the game, but Andreas Johnson’s goal at 57:37 ultimately sealed Salzburg's fate.
Despite the loss, Salzburg proved they could keep pace with the Swedish CHL runners-up, particularly excelling on the powerplay. However, their opponent was just as effective with their man-advantage opportunities, something Salzburg will need to address ahead of their clash with SønderjyskE.
The Danes struggled a lot more in their season opener against the Straubing Tigers, conceding three goals — one in each period. Like Salzburg, SønderjyskE faced issues on the penalty kill, allowing two powerplay goals.
Offensively, they didn’t pose much of a threat, but defensively they held up reasonably well, with goaltender Mattias Petterson making 38 saves despite conceding three goals.
To challenge Salzburg, SønderjyskE will need to step up their offense, create more goal-scoring opportunities, and capitalise on them. Otherwise, Salzburg could easily walk away with three points.
