Both clubs enter this derby undefeated: Kölner Haie downed Tappara Tampere 5-4 in OT; and Frölunda Gothenburg also skated away with a victory in OT against KooKoo Kouvola by 2-1 final. Now both teams get set to see who can continue their streak in this Game Day 3 match-up.

Cologne held a one-goal lead until Tappara's Vilho Vanhatalo tied things at 4-4 with a little over ten minutes to go in the final frame. But then in OT it was Ryan MacInnis sealing it for his club when he corralled a bouncing puck and put it past Christian Heljanko. Going up against two CHL vets in Red Bull Salzburg and Tappara and coming away victorious is indicative of the Germans' ability to find ways to win. They'll need to continue this momentum as they face a club which is currently sixth in the league in scoring with 4.00 GG and tied for third in GAG with 1.00

The Swedes had their mettle tested against Kouvola, but managed to make the most of an OT opportunity to gain the extra point. Through two games, they've been excellent on both sides of the puck and their special teams play has been noteworthy. They currently hold the top PP% conversion at 50.00% and their PK has been equally impressive where they're tied for sixth-place league-wide operating at 87.50%. Despite Cologne's own stellar run, the Swedes need only dictate pace the play from the start and things should fall into place from there.
