- Both teams lost to Czech clubs last week
- Frölunda in Playoffs, Bordeaux just outside Top 16
- Frölunda have CHL's 2nd-best PP; Bordeaux tied for worst PK
When Frölunda Gothenburg host the Bordeaux Boxers in the last game for each team in the Champions Hockey League Regular Season, both teams will be aiming for the highest finish possible. Frölunda – already five-time winners of the competition and having already clinched another Playoff spot – will be fighting for seeding, while the Boxers need to take points to maximise their chances and hope for the best when the dust settles.
Frölunda have nine points and secured a Playoff spot with a point earned in a 3-2 overtime loss to Liberec last week. Although their overall results have been average compared to past years, they’ve been outstanding on special teams – Frölunda have the CHL’s second-best powerplay (31.25%) and third-best penalty-killing (90.00%). Their top scorer is defenceman Henrik Tömmernes with seven points, followed by forwards Samuel Fagemo and Patrik Puistola with five each.
Bordeaux have four points, which is three below the Playoff cut-off line entering Game Day 6. The Boxers had a golden chance to get themselves on even footing with the teams they’re chasing but squandered a 2-0 lead to Pardubice last week and lost 5-2. While they have been decent offensively with 15 goals, they have allowed a CHL-leading 24 goals against and are tied for the CHL’s most permissive PK at 66.67%. Their offence has been spread out, with Enzo Carry, Baptiste Bruche and Pierre-Olivier Morin all recording four points.
