Group winners Mannheim host Brynäs IF, hoping to get a solid lead to take to Scandinavia next week.
A 1-0 win in Cologne Sunday night pushed Die Adler up inside the DEL top five, the result being their third straight win and third by a goal. Netminding will be crucial if the team, which already beat SHL champions HV71 Jönköping, is to get past its Swedish opponents – Dennis Endras putting up a save percentage of 92.04 through 240 minutes in the group stage. Devin Setoguchi leads the team with eight CHL points, while Chad Kolarik’s 15 (7+8) is Die Adler’s best DEL scorer.
Brynäs have been struggling in the SHL so far this season and currently sit just a place off the two relegation spots with only 13 points from 14 games. Off the back of two wins in six SHL matches, the CHL perhaps offers them an opportunity to turn their form around. Louie Caporusso has left the team, while top scorer Aaron Pulushaj has 10 ponits (3+7) in 14 games. Kevin Clark leads the team in the CHL with eight points.
