- Mountfield beat Rouen 3-2 on home ice on Game Day 2
- Mountfield trail Nuremberg by 1 point for 2nd place in Group F
- Rouen still searching for first points
When these teams met in Hradec Králové on Gameday 2, Mountfield held on for a 3-2 home-ice win over the Rouen Dragons. Despite being close a couple of times, the Dragons are still looking for their first points of this year’s CHL. For Mountfield, the win was a bounce-back after a loss to Nuremberg, and that’s what they need again.
Although they weren’t projected to advance from the Group Stage, the Rouen Dragons want to remain alive in the competition as long as possible, and a win in this game will guarantee that they will still have a chance when Game Day 5 comes along. In their most recent game against Kärpät Oulu, they took a 2-0 lead before ultimately falling 4-2. Three players on the team have two points so far, led by Nicolas Ritz, who wears the LGT Top Scorer’s jersey based on his two goals scored. Slovene Matija Pintarič has played every minute of every game in the Dragons’ net so far and has kept them in games.
From Mountfield’s perspective, this is a game they really must win. After Friday night’s overtime loss in Nuremberg, they now trail the Ice Tigers by one point in the race to advance. With their last two games of the Group Stage coming against Kärpät Oulu while Nuremberg face Rouen, they definitely want to be in second place after this game. Following their two-point nights in Nuremberg, the team’s top two scorers are Tomáš Vincour and Lukáš Cingel with four and three points, respectively.
